Sara rented a bike from Mark's bikes. It cost 14$ plus 3$ per hour. If Sara paid 32$ then she rented the bike for how many hours?

Answer:

6 hours

Explanation:

hey so we know that the base fee(think registration fee)that Sara has to pay is $14. This flat fee does not change as it is not affected by the # of hours Sara rents the bike.

since we are renting this bike and paying per hour, we are paying mike $3 for every hour we rent the bike.

lets take the # of hours as x

3x+14=32(since she paid 32 overall)

subtract 14 on both sides

3x+14-14=32-14

3x=18

3x/3=18/3

x=6

sara rented this bike for 6 hours!

hope this helps!
