The value of x = 36

Explanation:

We have,

x, 45, 40 and 50 are in a proportion.

x : 45 : : 40 : 50

To find, the value of x = ?

We know that,

a : b : : c : d

Product of means = Product of extremes

a × d = b × c

∴ a × d = x × 50

Also,

b × c = 45 × 40

∴ x × 50 = 45 × 40

⇒ x =
(45 * 40)/(50)

⇒ x =
(45 * 4)/(5)

⇒ x = 9 × 4 = 36

∴ The value of x = 36
