Holden is trying to determine the velocity of his race car. He went 20 meters east, turned around, and went 40 meters west. He turned the car one more time and went 35 meters east. His car was 15 meters from the starting line. This took 5 seconds. What is the car's velocity?

Explanation:

Velocity =Displacement/Time

Displacement=Final Position - Initial Position

Now, although e went 20 meters east, turned around, and went 40 meters west. He also turned the car one more time and went 35 meters east.

We are not looking for the distance travelled, we only require his displacement.

Holden's car is 15 metres from his starting line, so his displacement =15m

Time taken =5 seconds

Velocity of the Race Car

=15/5 = 3m/s
