for a craft project say that the length of a piece of red ribbon should be 7 inches longer than the length of a piece of blue ribbon. How long is the red ribbon if the length of the blue ribbon is x inches?

Answer:

If the blue ribbon is x inches and the red ribbon is that length and an additional 7 inches the red ribbon can be expressed as x + 7.
