let x and y be the roots of x^2 - 8x + m

Let x = x

y = 3x

x + y = 8

x + 3x = 8;

x × y = m

x × 3x = m

then

4x = 8 and 3x^2 = m

x = 2

m = 3(2)^2

= 3 × 4

= 12.
