5. The head of a nail is circular, as shown. The head of this nail has a diameter of 6 millimeters.

What is the approximate measurement of the area of the head of the nail in square millimeters (mm2)? Use 3.14 to approximate π, do not round your answer.

Answer:

28.26
mm^(2)

Explanation:

The head of a nail would be considered a circle, therefore you would want to use the formula for area of a circle: a=
r^(2)×π but in this circumstance using π as 3.14.

Because we are given diameter we need to DIVIDE by 2 to get your radius. 6/2=3. Your radius is therefore 3 and can be plugged in to you equation as a=
3^(2)×3.14. Now simplify and you'll get a=9×3.14, now solve and you'll get a=28.26.
