Collecting and presenting textual evidence in support of an argument is an important skill. Let’s say you’ve been asked to write a literary analysis essay on the theme of justice in The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. In about 150 words, collect at least three specific examples from the text and explain why each is relevant to the paper’s thematic topic of justice.

Answer:

The three examples in the text of the theme of justice are in chapters 4, 10, and 11. In chapter 4, Charlotte is speaking with Zachariah about what happened to Mr. Cranick during the last voyage and why the crew wants revenge. Zachariah asked Charlotte if she believed in justice for all and Charlotte said, “For those that deserve it.” This shows that Charlotte believes in justice sometimes. The second example of justice is in Chapter 10 when Captain Jaggery calls the crew on deck because Charlotte told him about the round robin. Captain Jaggery’s idea of justice was to shoot Mr. Cranick for trying to take revenge on him. Mr. Cranick and the crew members thought that they had to take justice into their own hands because Captain Jaggery got away with taking his arm off. The third example of justice happens in Chapter 11 when Captain Jaggery decides to punish another crew member for the round robin to make the point that they can not cross him. Zachariah, the only crew member who does not have a weapon, gets punished which Captain Jaggery looks at like justice. Charlotte understands Zachariah’s story from Chapter 4 now and tries to stop the whipping.

Hope this helps!

Answer:

Justice is one of the important themes of the novel 'The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle'.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the story 'The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle' by 'Avi' is a story about a girl Charlotte whose different experiences in life change her perception about how to judge people and how she wanted to live her life.

The story highlights that justice can mean different for different people. Charlotte’s views are initially influenced by her father who is a wealthy and protective father. He wants her to be well educated and write a journal a bout her voyage. He thinks that people of lower class should respect higher class people, i.e. they deserve justice more than others.

But Charlotte thinks that justice should be right of all and should not be a privilege for some. When she was wrongly convicted for the crime she did not commit, she experienced how justice becomes privilege for a few because of their high ranks like for Captain Jaggery.
