In chapter 4, Charlotte is speaking with Zachariah about what happened to Mr. Cranick during the last voyage and why the crew wants revenge. Zachariah asked Charlotte if she believed in justice for all and Charlotte said, “For those that deserve it.” This shows that Charlotte believes in justice sometimes. The second example of justice is in Chapter 10 when Captain Jaggery calls the crew on deck because Charlotte told him about the round robin. Captain Jaggery’s idea of justice was to shoot Mr. Cranick for trying to take revenge on him. Mr. Cranick and the crew members thought that they had to take justice into their own hands because Captain Jaggery got away with taking his arm off. The third example of justice happens in Chapter 11 when Captain Jaggery decides to punish another crew member for the round robin to make the point that they can not cross him. Zachariah, the only crew member who does not have a weapon, gets punished which Captain Jaggery looks at like justice. Charlotte understands Zachariah’s story from Chapter 4 now and tries to stop the whipping.
