width= x

x (x+6)= 72⇔
x^(2) + 6x - 72= 0⇔ x= (-6 ±
\sqrt{6^(2) -4 *1*(-72) }) / 2*1⇔

⇔ x= (-6±√324)/2 ⇔ x= (-6±18)/2 ⇔ x= 6 ∨ x= -12

Since the width of a rectangle can't be negative, the answer will be 6 meters.
