Explanation:

So first you want to decide which way you want to divide the shape.

I am going to do it this way...

So the bottom is 16ins. and the top part is 10 ins.

So when you subtract 16-10 you get 6.

This means that the small portion sticking up is 6 ins. across.

According the left side the width with the small part is 8 ins.

So now we find the area of that half.

6 times 8 is 48ins.

Now we are going to get the other part.

The top says it is 10 ins.

The side says it is 6 ins.

Now we multiply 10 by 6 nd get 60 ins

We are almost finished, all we have to do is add 60 and 48.

Your answer is 108ins.squared.
