For this case we have the following equation:

2m + 4s = 16

We solve for each of the variables:

For m:

We subtract 4s from both sides of the equation:

2m = 16-4s

We divide by 2 on both sides of the equation:

m = \frac {16-4s} {2}\\m = \frac {16} {2} - \frac {4s} {2}\\m = 8-2s

For s:

We subtract 2m from both sides of the equation:

4s = 16-2m

We divide between 4 on both sides of the equation:

s = \frac {16} {4} - \frac {2m} {4}\\s = 4- \frac {m} {2}

Answer:

m = 8-2s\\s = 4- \frac {m} {2}
