The number of kids in group is 12

Solution:

Let "k" be the number of kids

Let "a" be the number of adults

Cost of 1 kid ticket = $ 4

Cost of 1 adult ticket = $ 6

You take a group of 20 people going to the movies

Therefore, we frame a equation as:

number of kids + number of adults = 20

k + a = 20 ----------- eqn 1

Your total cost is $ 96

Therefore, we frame a equation as:

number of kids x Cost of 1 kid ticket + number of adults x Cost of 1 adult ticket = $ 96

k * 4 + a * 6 = 96

4k + 6a = 96 ---------- eqn 2

Let us solve eqn 1 and eqn 2

From eqn 1,

k = 20 - a ------ eqn 3

Substitute eqn 3 in eqn 2

4(20 - a) + 6a = 96

80 - 4a + 6a = 96

80 + 2a = 96

2a = 16

a = 8

Substitute a = 8 in eqn 3

k = 20 - 8

k = 12

Thus number of kids in group is 12
