Given a line segment that contains the points A,B, & C in order, and given that B is the midpoint of AC, if AB = 2x - 5, and BC = x + 7, find x.

x=12

Explanation:

Midpoint B of segment AC creates both equal segments AB and BC. The midpoint halves out AC therefore AB=BC

The equation would look like 2x-5=x+7 where you want to isolate x fully. First you want to add 5 on both sides of the equation so that you get 2x=x+12. Next subtract x from both sides of the equation to then get x=12.
