Explanation:

Let the length be x and breadth be y

hence, 2(x+y) = 36

x + y = 18

We know that the length and breadth should add up to 18. Now we need to think of 2 numbers which add up to 18 and gives the greatest area. One possibility is 9 × 9. But this would mean the shape would be a square since the length and breadth is 9ft and we want a rectangle in this question. Hence the next best possibility is 10 × 8 which gives us the next greatest area of 80 and the perimeter is 10 + 8 + 10 + 8 = 36ft
