Third Punic War, 149–146 BCE

Cause: Roman leaders wanted to prevent Carthage from ever becoming strong enough to defeat Rome.

Main Events: Rome sent a force of 80,000 infantry and 4,000 cavalries to Carthage. The Carthaginians fought back bravely. The city held off the invading army for three years. In the end, the Romans overran Carthage. They destroyed the city and turned its 50,000 survivors into slaves.

Result: Rome won. The Roman army burned the city of Carthage to the ground.

First Punic War, 264–241 BCE

Cause: Sicily is very close to the southern tip of Italy. Rome invaded Sicily to keep Carthage from taking full control of the island.

Main Events: Roman and Carthaginian armies fought on Sicily and at sea. To be able to compete with Carthage's navy, Rome built its own naval fleet.

Result: Rome won. Sicily became Rome's first province.

During the Second Punic War

Feedback: Second Punic War, 218–202 BCE

Cause: A Carthaginian general, Hannibal, attacked and seized Saguntum, a Roman town in Spain.

Main Events: Hannibal's army, including a number of elephants, marched along the coast of Spain and through Gaul. Somehow, they crossed the cold and snowy Alps into northern Italy. They fought their way south, winning several battles.

(Extra: However, Hannibal had a problem. His army was too small to hold on to all the territory that it won. Rome's navy, meanwhile, kept Carthage from sending more troops to Italy. Some of Rome's allies in Italy helped Hannibal. But many stayed loyal to Rome.)

Result: Rome won. Carthage had to pay a yearly sum to Rome. The Romans took control of all of Spain.

Explanation: This is NOT from google! I know I'm late but hope this helps!

Answer: Rome was bothered by the economic strengthening of the Carthage.

Step-by-step explanation:

Carthage, after the Second Punic War, pursued a peaceful policy and devoted itself to economic progress. They distinguished themselves in the maritime trade, thus endangering the financial interests of Rome. A minor incident was used by Rome to paint the Carthage war. Even if the Carthage authorities were ready to agree, the Romans still insisted on fighting. Eventually, the Roman consuls came to Carthage. They demanded that the Carthage be abandoned and that they settle in a new place at least 15 kilometers from the sea. In Carthage, this proposal was rejected, and so began the third Punic war. Cartage fought bravely, but eventually, Roman troops managed to break into the city. Third Punic War began in 149 BC, and ended 146 BC. The victorious Romans plundered Carthage and sold the captive population into slavery. With Carthage, what Cato asked for in the Senate was done - she was devastated. The Punic wars extended Rome's borders beyond Italy, made Rome the master of commerce in the Mediterranean Sea, and brought him a large slave labor force.
