In your class of 20 students, 11 receive a B on a test, 5 receive an A and 2 receive a C. Two students fail. What percent of the students pass the test?

Answer:

90%

Explanation:

first, add up the passing grades

A’s: 5

B’s: 11

C’s: 2

= 18 passing grades

Now we find how much is 18 percent of 20:

To do this we basically just turn the denominator (20) into a 100, and do the same thing to the top:

18 / 20 x 5 to both sides = 90 / 100,

Hence, 90% of the students pass the test :)
