When it came to Reconstruction, there were two sides: Those for Radical Reconstruction and those for Moderate/Conservative Reconstruction.
Lincoln was seen as center-left radical reconstructionist, however his Vice President, Andrew Johnson, was a moderate at best and a white supremacist at worst. His version of reconstruction would come to be seen as a sham and ignorance toward the actions of the Confederacy. However, in Southern states, Radical Reconstruction thrived. And so, a long battle between Johnson and the Radical Reconstructionists began.
