Ethanol has a chemical formula C2H5OH and sugar has a chemical formula C6H12O6. The individual components in both the substances are carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Yet, they are two different compounds.

What is the reason for this?

Answer: They contain different functional groups

They contain different numbers of atoms of each element

The arrangement of the atoms of each element are different in the both compounds

Step-by-step explanation:

When two chemical species contain different atom-to-atom connectivity, different number of atoms of each element, different arrangement of atoms of each element and different functional groups, the both species are actually different compounds as in C2H5OH and C6H12O6.

They undergo different types of chemical reaction because of the different functional groups present in each compound.

Answer:

The number ofcarbon atoms in ethanol is 2 and it is 6 in sugar.

Hydrogen atoms is 6 in ethanol and 12 in sugar

Oxygen is 1 atom in ethanol and 6 atoms in sugar.

Step-by-step explanation:

All these account for them as two different compounds.
