1 3/8 minus 1 3/4, you need the denominator to be the same. so 4 goes into 8 two times and 8 goes into 8 once. so 4x2=8 what you do to the bottem you do to the top. 3x2=6. now, you have 1 3/8 minus 1 6/8 that is negitive because the bigger number is on the left. after you subtract you should get 3/8 but remember the negitive. so you should have -3/8 as your final answer
