Why do u think a tree was chosen to represent language families?

Answer:

Because like a tree, languages have many branches such as dialects for different areas/regions that can differ a lot or a little. In addition, most languages tend to stem from the same roots such as latin, for example. Using a tree shows how they are all connected and how they relate to each other.
