A school's principal wanted to give a special 'Good Luck' pencil for each student in the fifth grade. If there are 105 kids in the fifth grade, and there are 12 pencils in each box, how many boxes will he need to buy?

To find the number of boxes divide the total kids by number of pencils in each box. Here 105/12 leaves remainder. It means still kids are left over. So add 1 to the quotient
105/12= 8 and remainder is 9.
So add 1 to the quotient 8 which is 9
Total pencil boxes = 9
