Answer:

she planted the rose bush 5 years ago.

Explanation:

That's first put all of our numbers into improper fractions

2 = (8)/(4) \\ 1 (1)/(4) = (5)/(4)

we're not going to worry about 8 and 1/4 since the rose bush was already 2 ft tall when she planted it it grew instead 6 and 1/4 ft so we will convert that into an improper fraction

6 (1)/(4) = (25)/(4)

we are now divide this height by the rate at which it grows

( (25)/(4) ft)/( (5)/(4) (ft)/(yr) ) = (25)/(4) \: ft * (4)/(5) (yr)/(ft) = (100)/(20) yr = 5yrs

The above equation The units feet cancel leaving us with only years.

Explanation:

ok so

your equation would be 8 1/4=1 1/4x + 2

you start with 2 and go up 1 1/4 per year.

we need to find x

8 1/4 - 2 is 6 1/4

5 of 1 1/4 makes 6 1/4

adding the 2 back is 8 1/4

your answer is 5 years

I hope this helped :)
