If 7 less than 5 times the number is equal to 8 or twice the number then find the number​

Answer:

x = 3 or
(7)/(3) = x

Explanation:

5x - 7 = 8 ( 0r 2x )

If we use 8:

5x - 7 + 7 = 8 + 7

5x = 15

5x/5 = 15/5

x = 3

Check your work:

5(3) -7

15 - 7 = 8

If we used 2x instead of 8:

5x - 7 = 2x

5x - 5x -7 = 2x - 5x

- 7 = -3x


(-7)/(-3) = x

or


(7)/(3) = x

Since a negative divided or multiplied by a negative is a positive.
