Hey there!

4(-x + 4) = 12

4(-x) + 4(4) = 12

-4x + 16 = 12

SUBTRACT 16 to BOTH SIDES

-4x + 16 - 16 = 12 - 16

CANCEL out: 16 - 16 because it gives you 0

KEEP: 12 - 16 because it helps solve for the x-value

NEW (temporary) EQUATION: -4x = 12 - 16

12 - 16 = -4

NEW EQUATION: -4x = -4

DIVIDE -4 to BOTH SIDES

-4x/-4 = -4/-4

CANCEL out: -4/-4 (the LEFT side) because that gives you 1

KEEP: -4/-4 (the RIGHT side) because it gives you the result of the x-value

x = -4/-4

x = 1

Therefore, your answer is: x = 1

Good luck on your assignment and enjoy your day!
