Let r = Raul's age

The question gives us what x equals so...

x=39

Now we just turn the sentence into an equation.

"The number of years from the start of the Great Depression to the first Presidential election of Nixon [(x)] is six years less than three times Raul's age [(3r-6)]"

Remove the icky words...

x=3r-6

replace x with what it equals (39)

39=3r-6

Now you can go on to olve it

Overal Raul is only 15 :)
