4= -2(x - 3)
4= -2x - 6
4 + 6 = -2x - 6 + 6
10 = -2x
10/-2 = -2x/-2
-5 = x

4=-2(x-3)

divide both sides by 2

2=-(x-3)

remove parentheses

2=-x+3

move terms

2+x=3

subtract numbers

x=3-2

x=1
