  • Let the width of the rectangle be x feet.
  • Then, the length of the rectangle = 2x feet.
  • Perimeter = 60 feet (given)
  • Therefore, by the problem

2(x+2x) = 60

or, 2x+4x = 60

or, 6x = 60

or, x = 10

  • The width of the rectangle is 10 feet and the length of the rectangle is (2×10) feet, i.e., 20 feet.
  • Therefore, the area of the rectangle

= length × width

= (10×20) square feet

= 200 square feet

The area of the rectangle is 200 square feet.
