A bookstore had 45 copies of a magazine. Yesterday, it sold 2/3 of them. Today, it sold 2/5of what remained. How many copies does the bookstore have left?

2/3 * 45 is 30

2/5 * 30 is 12

12+30= 42

45-42=3

Explanation:

If 2/3 of 45 were sold then what is left is 1 - 2/3 = 1/3 of 45 or (1/3)*45 = 15 copies.

Then 4/5 of 15 were sold and what is left is 1 - 4/5 = 1/5 of 15 or 3 copies.
