Find the equation of the line that is parallel to the line y = 3x - 8 and passes through the point (-8,-3). Write the equation in point-slope form.

Since the lines are parallel the slope will be 3
Substituting for x and y in the equation y = 3x + c
results in -3 = 3 x -8 + c
-3 = -24 + c so c must equal -3 + 24 = 21

The required line has the equation y = 3x + 21
