Answer: x=2

Explanation:

So first write out the expression

7x-4= -4x+18

We usually want to start off by moving variables to one side and numbers (intergers) to the other

We can accomplish this usually with just addition and subtraction before we move on to simplifying

So

Add 4 to both sides

7x-4=-4x+18

+4 +4

7x=-4x+22

now the x

lets add 4x to cancel out our -4x

7x= -4x+22

+4x +4x

11x=22

now we have 11x=22 we can solve this by dividing so 11 divided by what number gives you one

So any number divided by itself is one so in this case divide both sides by the coefficient of x which is 11

11x=22

/11 /11

x=2

Hope that helps.

Summary. Move numbers around by cancelling using addition and subtraction. Once the variable is on one side and number is on the other divided by whatever number is next to x to solve for it. REMEMBER whatever you do to one side of an equation you must do to the other side.
