Case #3: Marvin, a 63-year-old man, had been a heavy drinker for 40 years. He was retired and relatively healthy. He developed a respiratory illness that required prolonged use of a medication that affected liver functioning. Marvin was told that he could not drink alcohol while taking the medication and that he was to take the medication for 1 year. His physician suggested that his withdrawal from alcohol be medically supervised because of his prolonged and heavy use. Marvin rejected this suggestion, discontinued his alcohol use, and has been clean and sober with no slips for 10 years. He has never attended an AA meeting or any other form of treatment.

Answer:

Disease Model

Explanation

The disease model of addiction is now established based on overwhelming evidence that addiction is like a disease of the brain, where a substance or behavior can produce a need to use drugs/alcohol or behave in a compulsive manner with known adverse consequences.

It may also be Moral Model since the "Disease Model" and "Moral Model" are very similar, but I find the "Disease Model" a bit more related to the man's problem.Hope this helps!
