You can plot a 1 on the very left and a 2 on the very right of the number line.

Since there is no formal square root of 2, you have to estimate.

It has to be less than 2 because if you multiply 2 * 2 you get 4 and that's too big; we want to get 2.

It also has to be greater than 1 because 1 * 1 = 1 and that's too low.

I would estimate it to be right before the middle line.
