People who lived in Eastern Europe during the Middle Ages were also Christian, but they were a part of the Eastern orthodox Church, which was led by someone called a patriarch and the headquarters of this church was located in Constantinople. People who belonged to that church did not follow papel policy because they did not follow the pope.
