x +y= 186 ÷3

x +y= 62 -----(1)

x -y= 22

x= y +22 -----(2)

Substitute (2) into (1):

y +22 +y= 62

2y= 62 -22 (-22 on both sides)

2y= 40

y= 40 ÷2

y= 20

Substitute y= 20 into (2):

x= 20 +22

x= 44

Thus, the two numbers are 20 and 42.
