The table below shows the percentage mark distribution of a number of candidates in a physics examination.

The table is in the attached image.

The completion of the table is :
Mark : 90-99
Frequency : 2

1. Make a cumulative frequency table and use it to draw the cumulative frequency curve.
II. from your graph estimate :
a. the Median Mark
b. the number of candidates that passed if the pass mark was 45% .
c. what is the probability that a person chosen at random from the candidates passed the examination.

Answer:

  • See below

Explanation:

(b)

  • The table is attached

(i)

  • The graph is attached

(ii)

(a) Cumulative frequency is 500, median is at 249, 250, the horizontal line from point 250 on y-axis intersecting the graph at approximately 52%, this is the median

(b) Vertical line from the 45% mark intersects the graph at approximately 177th point.

The number of candidates passed the test:

  • 500 - 177 = 323

(iii) P(pass) = 323/500 = 0.626 or 62.6%
