B makes no sense because it shows two equations for when x < 1. So this one can be ruled out immediately.

We also notice the shape of the functions, the one on the bottom looks like a cube, you can make out the beginning of the chair shape. So the one that is less than or equal to 1 is the cubic function. Which eliminates C.

This leaves D and you can plug in values of x and y to confirm this is correct.
