SUBTRACT 1 to BOTH SIDES:

1/2y + 1 - 1 = 2 - 1

CANCEL OUT: 1 - 1 because it give you 0

KEEP: 2 - 1 because it help solve for the y-value

NEW EQUATION: 1/2y = 2 - 1

SIMPLIFY IT!
1/2y = 1

MULTIPLY 2 to BOTH SIDES

1/2y * 2 = 1 * 2

CANCEL out: 1/2 * 2 because it give you 1
