Explanation:

exponent of a number says how many times to use the number in a multiplication.

so if the exponent is 2 then you multiply the same number twice

if the exponent is 4 then you multiply the same number 4 times

its usually represented by the symbol ^

so 3^2 = 9

because 3 * 3 = 9

2^8 = 8

4^2 =16

3^3 = 27

5^0 = 1

any number with an exponent of 0 = 1

Answer:

An exponent is a short cut for writing out multiplication of the same number. For example: 5 * 4 is the same as saying 5 x 5 x 5 x 5. So, 5 * 4 = 5 x 5 x 5 x 5 = 625. Sometimes, the exponent is called a power. In the case of our example, 5 * 4 can also be called 5 to forth power.

= 5^4
