{ \bf{ \underbrace{Mistake \:made:}}}

7 (
x - 3 ) - 2 (
x + 5 )

7 (
x - 3 ) - 2
x
\sf\red{+} 10

[ The "+" ( positive sign, above in
\sf\red{red} ) should be in "-" ( negative sign ) since
\sf\blue{(-)\:x\:(+)\:=\:-} ]

{ \bf{ \underbrace{Correct\:work\:and\:answer :}}}

7(x - 3) - 2(x + 5) \\ = 7x - 21 - 2x - 10 \\ = 7x - 2x - 21 - 10\\ = 5x - 31

Explain the mistake made:

=7x-21-2x+10 is not the right answer for
7(x-3)-2(x+5)

Correct work and answer:

7(x-3)-2(x+5)

7(x)+(7)(-3)+(-2)(x)+(-2)(5)

7x-21-2x-10

Combine the like terms:

(7x-2x)+(-21-10)

5x-31

Therefore, the final answer is
5x-31
