The widespread sentiment that influenced the rise of totalitarianism was a fear of instability and the rise of nationalism to nations like Italy and Germany. After WW1, many nations were in debt and were declining in certain aspects, totalitarianism promised a more centralized and effective government. The Great Depression made Fascism become even more popular with many nations adopting the new ideology, such as Spain, Germany, Siam, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, and even a strong political party in Britain led by Oswald Mosley.
