Answer: -17/6

======================================================

Work Shown:

  • A = first rational number = -13/6
  • B = second rational number = unknown

A+B = -5 ... since the sum of both is -5

B = -5-A

B = -5-(-13/6)

B = -5+13/6

B = -30/6 + 13/6

B = (-30+13)/6

B = -17/6 is the answer

Answer:

Let \ the \ number \ be = x\\sum \ of \ 2 \ rational \ numbers = -5\\\\x + (-13)/(6) = -5\\\\x - (13)/(6) = -5\\\\

x = -5 + (13)/(6) = (-30 + 13)/(6) = -(17)/(6)

The other rational number = -17/6
