Lothal was a vital and thriving trade centre in ancient times, with its trade of beads, gems and valuable ornaments reaching the far corners of West Asia and Africa. The techniques and tools they pioneered for bead-making and in metallurgy have stood the test of time for over 4000 years.

1. Lothal is known for dock engineering. The dock was built for the entry and exit of the boats. The residents of Lothal had good knowledge of the high and low tides. They built the dock keeping in mind the rising and receding patterns of water.

2. Textile has been found in Mesopotamian civilization. Harappan traders must have received the trading product through Mesopotamia although there are several evidences showing the manufacture of textile articles at the Harappan sites as well.
