Glycolysis is the first to occur in the cytoplasm of the cell, after which it is followed by Krebs cycle, which uses the products of glycolysis as a starting material.

At the end of Krebs cycle, 2 molecules of carbon dioxide (CO2) are released as waste products. This release of CO2 occurs specifically at stage 3 and 4 of the citric acid cycle or Krebs cycle.
