A rectangle is placed around a semicircle as shown below. The length of the rectangle is 14 m . Find the area of the shaded region. Use the value 3.14 for , and do not round your answer. Be sure to include the correct unit in your answer.

Area of shaded region = area of rectangle - area of semicircle

Area of semicircle =
(1)/(2)πr²

π = 3.14

r = radius = 14/2 = 7m

the diameter of the semicircle is 14m , thus the radius would be half of the diameter

(1/2) x 3.14 x 7² = 76.93 m^

Area of a rectangle = length x width

width = radius of semicircle = 7

14 x 7 = 98 m²

Area of shaded region = 98 m² - 76.93 m^ = 21.07 m²
