One number is equal to the square of another. Find the numbers if both are positive and their sum is 90.

Find the numbers if both are positive and their sum is 12

x + y = 12

replace x with y^2, you have a quadratic equation

y^2 + y - 12 = 0

Explanation:

Factors to

(y+4)(y-3) = 0

The positive solution is all they want here

y = 3

then

x = 3^2

x = 9
