This looks backwards to some, but it's correct: replacing x with x + 4 in a function moves the graph 4 units to the left.

The reason?

Just suppose that f(6) = 7. To get f(x + 4) to equal 7, you have to use 2 as a value for x, 4 units less than the 6 that was used before.
