The following data were obtained in a study taken on a horizontal milling machine: Parts produced per cycle: 8. Average measured cycle time: 8.36 minutes. Average measured stress time per cycle: 4.62 minutes. Average fast traverse time: 0.08 minutes. Average cutting time with electrical power: 3.66 minutes. Performance rating: 115%. Clearance (machine time): 10%. Slack (effort time): 15%. The operator works on the task 8 hours a day and produces 380 parts. How many standard hours does the operator work

Answer:

8.04 ≈ 8 hours

Explanation:

Given data:

parts produced per cycle = 8

Average measured cycle time = 8.36 minutes

Average measured stress time per cycle ( observed workers time) = 4.62 minutes

e.t.c

Determine the number of standard hours the operator works

Given that the operator works for 8 hours a day and produces 380 parts

First : calculate the normal time for worker and machine ( Normal time = ( observed worker time * performance rating ) / 100

Normal time for worker = (4.62* 115) / 100 = 5.31 mins

Normal time for machine = (observed cycle time - observed worker time ) = 8.36 - 4.62 = 3.74 mins

Next; determine the Total standard time for Machine and worker = ( normal time * ( 1 + Allowance factor )

Standard Time For Worker = 5.313* (1 + 0.1) = 5.84 mins

while Standard Time for Machine = 3.74 *( 1 + 0.15) = 4.30 mins

Total standard time = 5.84 + 4.3 = 10.14 mins

Finally determine the standard hours the operator works

Standard hours = (Standard Piece Time* Pieces produced) / 60

where ; Standard piece time = Standard time / pieces per cycle = 10.14 / 8 = 1.27 mins

hence ; Standard hours = ( 1.27 * 380 ) / 60 = 8.04 hours
