If sin12 = k determine cos24 in terms of k

Recall the double-angle identity,

sin²(x) = (1 - cos(2x)) / 2

Now if sin(12°) = k, then

k ² = sin²(12°) = (1 - cos(24°)) / 2

→ cos(24°) = 1 - 2k ²
