What is the total number of possible 4-letter arrangements of the letters

m, a, t, h, if each letter is used only once in each arrangement?

Answer: 24

Explanation:

The first letter can be any of the four letters, after that, the second now has 3 letter choices as one of them is used for the first letter, the third has 2 and the fourth has 1. So the total possible arrangements is 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 24
