Paulo gave half of his candies to Pablo. Pablo gave half of his candies to Paulina. Paulina gave 1/4 of the candies given to her to Paulette and kept the remaining 27. How many candies did Paulo start with?

27/3=9, 9•4=36, 36•2=72, 72•2=144
